Position Overview:

This Electrical SME role requires a professional with specialized knowledge and expertise in electrical systems, particularly those critical to data center design, construction, and operations. Their role is vital due to the high power demands and reliability requirements of data centers.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design and Planning: Provides expertise in designing electrical systems, including power distribution, backup power (e.g., UPS systems, generators), and cooling systems to ensure uninterrupted operation.

2. System Specification: Recommends and reviews specifications for electrical components like transformers, switchgear, and cabling to meet data center performance and efficiency goals.

3. Code Compliance: Ensures all electrical installations comply with relevant codes, standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE), and industry best practices.

4. Risk Assessment: Identifies potential electrical risks, such as power failures or inefficiencies, and proposes mitigation strategies.

5. Construction Oversight: Supervises the installation of electrical systems during construction, ensuring quality and adherence to design specifications.

6. Troubleshooting: Resolves complex electrical issues during construction or commissioning phases.

7. Energy Efficiency: Advises on optimizing power usage effectiveness (PUE), a key metric in data centers, to reduce operational costs and environmental impact.

8. Coordination: Collaborates with other teams (mechanical, IT, structural) to integrate electrical systems seamlessly into the data center’s infrastructure.

Required Expertise:

- Deep knowledge of electrical engineering principles, high-voltage systems, and low-voltage controls.

- Familiarity with data center-specific requirements, such as redundancy (e.g., N+1 or 2N configurations) and scalability.

- Experience with critical power systems, including uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), backup generators, and power distribution units (PDUs).

- Understanding of cooling systems, as electrical systems are closely tied to HVAC for heat management.

- Proficiency in relevant software tools for electrical design (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, or ETAP).

Education : Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field preferred.

- Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license, LEED certification, or data center-specific credentials (e.g., CDCP, CDCS).

- Experience: Three years working on electrical systems, ideally in mission-critical environments like data centers, hospitals, or telecommunications.
