Job Description

The Department of Social Services, Child Welfare Division is hiring experienced and dedicated Senior Social Caseworkers . The Senior Social Caseworker will work with families and children evaluating the need for the type, level and a range of casework services.

As a Senior Social Caseworker, you will:

• Conduct home visits to investigate allegations of abuse and/or neglect
• Make child-centered or individual assessments to the home, foster care facility, school, hospital, court proceedings, etc. to determine living conditions, socioeconomic status, and other factors with regard to applicants, or for the recipient of care and services
• Assess risk and safety of children in the home
• Identify interventions that can reduce risks of children and families
• Evaluate and implement casework services involving the more complex and difficult case situations
• Handle emergencies and unusual casework situations, as assigned
• Make collateral contacts necessary for understanding case issues and to enable planning for the management of cases
• Evaluate the services provided to clients in area of assignment to determine their effectiveness
• May be required to implement safety interventions and coordinate immediate provisions of service

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years of professional social casework experience or MSW
• Valid NY State Driver’s license
• Must receive a satisfactory clearance issued by the NY State Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment and must consent to a background investigation in accordance with the provisions of the Child Abuse Prevention Act of 1985 and New York State Social Services Law
